NetMotion
overview
More than a technology company
NetMotion is a software company, but it’s so much more than that. Founded in 2001 when mobile was far less pervasive than today, for the last 20 years we’ve obsessed over improving the lives of remote workers everywhere. Today more than one million workers and 3000 organizations rely on our technologies to stay productive, secure and connected.
Where we are
The company headquarters is based in Seattle, WA, right by West Lake Union and it is where around half of us work. Others are dispersed across our Canada, UK, Australia or Japan offices, and many more work remotely from homes and shared workspaces across the globe.
Uncompromised secure access
In 2019, Gartner first published its Market Guide for Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA). It outlined the core components for a technology seen by many as the natural successor to VPN. Similar to SDP, ZTNA operates on a ‘deny by default’ basis, keeping unwanted users or bad actors from accessing sensitive enterprise resources. NetMotion is the only solution to provide ZTNA as part of its platform alongside a VPN, offering the 98% of organizations with a mix of on-prem and cloud applications with the optimum choice for adopting ZTNA while also retaining a VPN that’s there when they need it.
Protect your users
NetMotion ZTNA analyzes every single request by remote workers, using dynamic, contextual data about each device to authorize access to enterprise resources. Unwanted and risky connections are blocked, keeping users safe from online threats and risky content – and crucially, outside of enterprise resources they are not approved to access.
Protect the enterprise
Your company data and applications remain protected, whether they are hosted in the cloud, as a service or on-premise. Only approved users can reach the resource that they need in the moment they need it, eliminating lateral movement. Applications are made completely invisible to unsanctioned users, ensuring your organization is safe from intruders or high-risk connections.
The benefits of NetMotion ZTNA
It improves the user experience
Using patented technologies, NetMotion makes networks more resilient and significantly reduces connectivity issues. With rich diagnostics data, IT teams can support remote workers as effectively as if they were sat in the office.
The best of ZTNA and the best of VPN
Implementing zero trust can be difficult and adopting ZTNA doesn’t happen overnight. NetMotion is the only security platform that provides both a VPN and ZTNA in a single interface, with one client, one console and policy engine.
Simple, seamless and flexible architecture
With support for every major operating system (iOS, Windows, Mac OS and Android), NetMotion has a highly customizable architecture that is available as a service, in the cloud or as an on-premise option.
Understand, diagnose and improve the remote working experience
The enormous shift to distributed working has created problems that experience monitoring solutions are uniquely capable of resolving. The ability to gather real-time, actionable data about the experience of workers can have a massive impact on the success of a business. The benefits range from increasing productivity and savings to improving employee morale and ultimately boosting the customer experience.
Real employee data
Remote workers have traditionally been a blind spot for IT and mobility teams. NetMotion DEM provides real-time data about the device, application and network performance in a single pane of glass. No other experience monitoring solution can provide the same level of insight into mobile workers, showing real-time, non-synthetic information on networks, applications, devices and much more.

Demand more from your VPN
While new approaches to remote access are emerging, such as ZTNA, most enterprises will have a continued need for a robust VPN that meets the needs of the increasingly mobile workplace. NetMotion is the only VPN available that has been designed specifically with mobile workers in mind, providing seamless remote access in a way that actively improves the employee experience.
Resilient remote access
Most people are used to thinking of a VPN as a cumbersome, unwelcome way of getting remote access. NetMotion is different. Using a blend of sophisticated and patented technologies, users get improved performance when the VPN is on – especially on slow networks. They also stay online no matter what, with session and tunnel persistence even when the network drops altogether.
Much more than a VPN
Unlike legacy-based VPNs, NetMotion is software based and includes deep insights into the activity of every device. Understand more about network performance, device status and application usage in customizable dashboards on your fleet. A powerful context-aware policy engine means that workers can easily access the resources they need without allowing lateral movement, significantly reducing the risk surface.
What is SASE?
Secure Access Service Edge or “SASE” is a term that was coined by Gartner in 2019. Although it’s tempting to think of it as a product category, similar to ZTNA/SDP or VPN, it is more of a framework or philosophy. SASE encompasses a package of technologies, delivered as a service, that are designed to support the dynamic secure access needs of modern organizations.
Are you a network gymnast?
Funneling every connection through one centralized data center has created what Gartner calls “network gymnastics”. It simply no longer makes sense, given very little of what a user needs remains in the corporate data center. Not only that, but this model introduces latency and inhibits secure direct access.
The road to SASE
In order to abide by the SASE framework, every networking & security solution that once lived in a box in the data center, needs to instead to be delivered, as a service to the distributed workforce (at the edge). The traditional bottleneck of tunneling everything through one central on-premise ‘hub’ is therefore alleviated.
SASE in practice means delivering identity-centric network security, as a service, in the cloud. SASE solutions sit between agile users and corporate resources. They dynamically provide low-latency, secure direct access, based on identity.
NetMotion has SASE solutions
SASE encompasses a number of different technologies and solutions, ranging from SD-WAN to VPN. The NetMotion platform demonstrates leadership and capabilities in all solutions called out by Gartner as being ‘core components’ of SASE.
